FLOWERS

April 8th, 2020

Flowers are not reasonable
They don’t care who’s died
Steadfast, strong and seasonable
They will not be denied

Plant a tulip upside down
She’ll u-turn toward the sun
Stems burst forth from sidewalk cracks
Red runner beans will run

Cities may grind to a halt
Airplanes cease to fly
People peer through windowpanes
At the clearing sky

Flowers pay no heed to this
They just do their thing
Determined, bold and unaware
Announcing, “It is spring!”

Flowers will not mourn for you
Flowers will not grieve
All a flower’s born to do
Is blossom and believe.
