Liam Cain, a freshman at SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, Class of 2029, is majoring in Forest Ecosystem Science. Liam is working to develop a deeper understanding of the natural world and the skills to live peacefully in it. He has had a passion for photography since childhood and often used his mother’s camera to capture the world and people as he saw them. He has a passion for the subtleties of life in motion, candid moments, and understated beauty. In this collection, he hopes to visually define nourishment in all its form from both the subjects’ and artists’ perspectives.

Artist Statement: This body of work is a varied representation of nourishment. Beyond the literal nourishment of the subjects sustaining themselves – such as the wild horses resting and grazing – the representation of nourishment of soul, heart, and body can be seen in the diverse ways throughout the series. The collection doesn’t only capture nourishment as a subject but also serves as a representation of creative nurturing for me. As the audience looks at the photos, I hope they see a parallel of appreciation and hopefulness within each person, animal and moment as I see. Each photo offers time to heal and reflect on the world around you.
