THE EARTH IS A LOST THING

Is a marble
rolling on its smooth sides and gliding down
the cosmic corridor

Is a new penny
its copper shining in the sun

Is a mound of clay
Is a mass of blood

Is a ripped-out tongue
Is a set of baby teeth

Feel her breath
In your lungs

Feel her love remain undying

Even as she watches you
With your hands
Wrapped around her throat
